Adult's Day
Carnival really is all about one day - Bank Holiday Monday – the day reserved for the very bravest adults. The ones who can take the huge sound systems, the crushing crowds and the desperate hunt for the nearest loo.
But for those of you who with the stamina to keep going all day the pay off is the most vibrant and exciting day out in London this summer. The culmination of months of hard work designing and creating costumes, putting together sound systems and practising music and dance routines, Monday’s celebration is the true essence of Carnival.
Last year’s Carnival had few changes from the usual line up with the parade route remaining the same and music from your favourite sound systems taking up residence in, for the most part, their usual spots.
On 31st August Europe’s biggest celebration of music, movement and masquerade took to the streets. There was the On the Road Senior Costume Competition (several categories including King, Queen and Best Band). The ‘Soca on the move’ competition, in association with Caribbean Music Association, also took place.
Look forward to summer 2010 which will feature a Notting Hill Carnival bigger, brighter and more spectacular than ever before.
