Sancho Panza, Notting Hill Carnival
The Sancho Panza Sound System is one of Carnival’s most famous, having been on the scene since 1994. Jimmy KTel and Matt Brown with their posse of DJs are one of Carnival’s institutions and a must see each year, pulling in dancing crowds from around Notting Hill.
Since winning the Best Decorated Sound System at the ’94 Carnival things have got bigger and better for the Sancho Panza guys. Moving from Bonchurch Street to their current home on Middle Row in 1996, they now put on the biggest and best street party of the Bank Holiday weekend. Where you’d normally find mothers gossiping outside school gates, revellers from all over London, and indeed the world, let their hair down to the sweet sounds of what can only be described as Carnival House, with it’s Latin vibe and massive instrumentalism.
The popularity of Sancho Panza at Carnival has lead on to big things for Matt and Jimmy, including appearances at Glastonbury Festival and the release of their own double CD (appropriately named Carnival). Getting bigger by the year, more and more people are flocking to the Sancho Sound System and the amazing stages used by the DJs - one of the biggest at Carnival - have got more and more outlandish.
One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Sancho Panza’s Carnival appearances is the guest DJ. These days the boys are often reluctant to announce who will be playing alongside them, partly to keep an air of mystery about their appearance and partly to make sure people are coming to see Sancho, not just their special guest. Past appearances have been made by Bushwacka, Craig Richards and Lee Burridge and all have been greeted with excitement and a great deal of excitement... so who knows who might be showing up this year.
The sunny sounds of Sunday’s Sancho set are perfect for dancing and enjoying the atmosphere, the uplifting beats and the company of your fellow Carnival-goers. Monday however, sees a darker side, with a more underground feel to the music, a must for hardcore fans of dance music. If you take a pilgrimage to only one Sound System at this year’s Carnival make sure it’s this one!

I want to say I had allot of fun at your sound system and actually at the whole Carnival. I have been really disappointed over the last few years on how Carnival has been going but what ever was in the air this year was so much fun and so much easier to move around !
For those of you that don't believe just take a peak at this video I put together - Enjoy!
