Very simply this hosts the most progressive jazz night in London every Thursday. The night is called Jazz Re:freshed and over the last few years I have seen only quality artists perform ..I've seen Azymuth, RAMP, The Rebirth, Kaidi Tatham, Xan Blaque and a whole host of other great performances..much nicer than the Jazz Cafe cos the people actually LIKE jazz...and they're not dusty intellectualised music types either...wow!

Could not agee with Tom more here. This place along with the Market bar is Notting Hill before the cash came pouring in. The most boho bar on Portobello where market traders rub shoulders with artists.

It hosts a shed lood of gigs and Dj nights and it can get rammed on the weekend but for me one of the best bars in a 3 mile radius.

Mau Mau is to Notting Hill what sugar is to a doughnut. Without it would just not be the same. A huge sweeping statement I realise but this bar is one of the last refuges of what might be called the old Grove days. Now in this new Notting Hill era Mau Mau's remains one of the remaining constants, a gathering place for locals new and old, all with the cheerful optimism of having an eventful evening. It somehow has the feel of a boozy bus stop where people assemble get the gist of what is going on that evening, do some drinking and then hit the road for some late night house parties. To say that this place has had a large part in most shin-digs is an understatement. They have live music going on most nights and the vibe is always friendly and welcoming whether you know everyone or are just passing through. This is a great place to start getting to know people if you have just moved in to the area! All in Mua Mau’s is a terrific boozer and really has a huge part of the Portobello culture resounding here, definitely worth checking out any time.

Turned up just as the band finished on a Saturday night. Staff were helpful, attractive and friendly, vibe outstanding. (June 2008) . Go there, be nice to people, smile a lot, and love it.
