Totally unique - and hilarious. Even if it is a tourist trap and a little pokey for getting in and out...
The Best of the Portobello Acoustic sessions, an offshoot of those from the ones held at The Metropolitan, were great here - and only the seating let it done by being a little hard on the posterior after a while.
Still, I keep hearing great things about the gigs at The Tabernacle - including people on Portobello Market raving about The Trojans playing there this past weekend (16/17 Oct 2009).
It definitely has a good community vibe about it - but also quite swish and professional with the mix of management between Carnival Village for the meeting spaces, events and gigs, along with Portobello Live for managing the bar and restaurant. If only the coffee was a little better in the daytime - but then it is best set up for being an evening and night time place, with cool bar and restaurant staff making great cocktails as well as stiffer drinks that help make the night have the extra glow...
A great asset for Notting Hill - and true as well as genuine "heart" for the best and most famous little village in London!!

The only real disco/club in da hood - but nights can be so variable there, just like the weather and people who frequent it
Last New Year here (start of 2009) - with DJ Derek and his Voodoo theme - was one of the best New Years ever!!
The Acoustic Sessions, held upstairs, were a great initiative - but just a little pokey and hard to get into, as well as out of (if you didn't like them!)
The idea for London Charm was born here, one Friday evening after work, 3 years ago between about a dozen people getting together, just at random. The atmosphere was still much the same last Friday 16th October 2009....
P.S. It is different atmosphere on different days - and great for good old standard roast for a Sunday lunch

Used to have it - but then lost it
The nearest you'll get to a true "Village Cafe" in Notting Hill - and meet the locals. Great coffee and reasonably priced
